"I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully tailored clothes...and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp...I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really there, and that I really lived."

~Marjorie Hinckley

"Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is a nobler art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of nonessentials." Lin Yutang

Marathon Runners

What an accomplishment!
Chet, Savannah and Quinn all participated in a Kid's Marathon. They have been running a mile at a time for the last couple of months and this was their last 1.2 miles to complete the marathon. We had been down to the beach on Friday visiting with some friends and ended up staying overnight there due to the tremendous down pour and gusting winds. It was pretty messy!...even back at home, where we discovered later that a tree was uprooted in our back yard during the storm. Happily it didn't fall on our house, or anything else important. The kids were troopers...rising at 5am to drive back in time for the race.
Here's a photo from the start of the race. I love Quinn's focus and determination captured here.

Chet was too speedy...I didn't capture the half way picture of him. I did manage to capture Savannah and Quinn. I love Savannah's smile. She's looking to Brenden and all the "cheerleaders" on the sidelines.

Here's Quinn. He was quite a speedy little guy!

All done! With medals to show for their great accomplishment. Yea!!! Great job kids!

Fall is here!...or coming soon, we hope :)

Fall is here....I think. It's sunny and in the 80's here, but we are "setting up" for fall! My sister-in-law inspired me by posting a photo of a fall wreath she recently made (thanks Natalie!), so Brenden kindly got our box of fall decor from the attic and today I put together a wreath to hang on our front door. Ammon and Brooke sat in the bright sunshine...notice the closed eyes :)...while I took a photo. I made pumpkin pie, too. Oh, the aroma is just heavenly! Now we just need the leaves to change color. It's supposed to cool down this weekend....maybe we'll see some fall colors soon!

Good Morning, indeed!

After sending most everyone off to school and work this morning, I began my day with Ammon and Brooke asleep. Soon Brooke woke up and while nursing her, I could hear that Ammon was up. Within a few minutes, Ammon was at my door with toast he made especially for me. Talk about melt your heart! I didn't even know he could make toast all by himself! What a sweet heart. Needless to say, I'm having a great day!

The Dashwood sisters....who are you?

I am Elinor Dashwood!

Our family thouroghly enjoys Jane Austin. We recently watched "Becoming Jane"...great movie, just a bit sad in the end...still, we enjoyed watching it...and, perhaps, got a bit more familliar with Jane, herself.

Washington DC Temple

On our family vacation this summer, we stopped by the Washington DC temple. I love this photo taken by the reflection pool. I almost got all the kids in the picture...Brenden is holding Brooke and Ammon is hanging onto my leg :)

Here's another fun photo at the temple. I think it's fun to see how they each chose to stand...it reflects their personality....except for Ammon, he's usually a very happy boy :)

Just a reminder....YOU ARE AWESOME!!!
